Supplementary classes at 13:00-13:50          Feb 2nd , 2010

1. Phonetic class specially designed for westerners:

This course is specially designed for westerners. It consists of 4 parts: pronunciation position, tones and change rules, stress models and initials/finals. We focus particularly on tones and stress models, because these two parts are keys to facilitating genuinely comprehensible speech. The method is to train and correct the westerner¡¯s typical pronunciation mistakes in a recycled way. And the teacher¡¯s training is from monosyllable to disyllable, even to phrase or sentence pronunciation so that the learners¡¯ pronunciation sounds like much authentic. The whole process involves intensive oral training.

(Price: 26yuan/session; Time:13:00-13:50, once/week, 10 session for total)

2.Independent Characters class:

The goal of this class is to help students to build up their interest in Chinese characters according to the structure and the usage from the independent system of characters. It will provide students a solid basis for further learning, particularly self learning. The class designing is focused on westerner¡¯s characteristics. Also, we consider the principles of learning: we maintain an efficient but reasonable pace appeal to students¡¯ and teach in a relaxing way in order to help students learn characters easily and smoothly. Quantity of characters is about 600.

(Price: 26yuan/session; Time: 13:00-13:50, twice/week, 40 sessions for total)

3.Learn characters from the public signs:

We teach students to recognize Chinese characters through public signs out of classroom. We introduce students to high frequency characters, recognizing these characters will help students get used to life in China. Total characters are about 200.

(Price: 26yuan/session; Time: 13:00-13:50, once/week, 10 sessions for total)

4.Chinese culture and Chinese custom:

Most lectures on Chinese culture are related to the festival taking place that month. If there is no traditional festival in a certain month, some customs will be added. Understanding basic Chinese culture and customs will improve students¡¯ ability adapted to daily life in China and to communicate effectively with Chinese people.

(Price: 26yuan/session; Time: 13:00-13:50, generally 3rd Friday of each month)

5.China monthly news:

Foreign students don¡¯t know Chinese news as well they know international news, because they come from different countries and their exposure is sometimes limited. Teachers will try their best to summarize the news of the month in an easy way. Students can learn not only vocabulary in common use, but also some popular expressions.

(Price: 26yuan/session; Time: 13:00-13:50, generally 4th Friday of each month)
